Understand the Anti-Inflammatory Way of Living

I want to talk about something that has been a game-changer for ALL of my clients: the anti-inflammatory way of living.

Client Testimonial: “When I did blood work last fall, my doctor said I didn’t have inflammation (even though I have joint pain and I can’t lose weight). But I started to follow your meal plan and in just 2 weeks, and I dropped 8 pounds (without exercise!). You mentioned that it’s from the anti-inflammatory diet. How is this happening?”

As the “anti-diet” nutritionist, I first want to be clear that I help my clients release the scale, release big expectations (diet-like mentality), and let go of the thought that their success is linked to a number on the scale.  However, in this particular case, it was helpful information to see that she was holding on to a lot of inflammation. Her body is now releasing toxins along with unneeded water weight.  If she sticks with this anti-inflammatory way of living, she will easily keep this weight off but more importantly, her metabolism will continue to heal and every day, she will feel better and better.

Symptoms:
If you struggle with any of these symptoms, it’s likely that your body is inflamed and it’s damaging your metabolism:

  • Body pain and aches
  • Arthritis
  • GI issues (bloat, gas, bowel struggles, reflux)
  • Headaches
  • High cholesterol
  • Inability to lose weight
  • Low energy
  • Insulin Resistance

P.S. Most people know when they are inflamed—they feel older and can sense that something is off.

How My Approach is Unique:
Many people understand that an anti-inflammatory diet—cutting out sugar and processed carbs—is good for you. However, what sets my approach apart is taking into account the role of stress hormones. IT’S HUGE!!!  If you follow the diet alone, sure, you’ll  have a reduction in symptoms. But when you couple it with lifestyle and mindset shifts to reduce cortisol, the results are profound!

How to Reduce Inflammation:

  1. Anti-inflammatory Diet: Eating a cleaner diet with less sugar, processed carbs, and toxic ingredients is key. For some clients, we may experiment with stricter diets to pinpoint particular foods that trigger inflammation and weight gain.
  2. Stress Reduction: High stress hormones lead to more inflammation. No one makes this important association so I am here to remind you to take care of yourself, talk kindly to yourself, make time for you, set boundaries… Whatever you need to do to reduce stress.
  3. Mindset Patterns: Do you know your thought patterns and habits that stress you out?  If they are reoccurring, I bet that they are a huge contributor to inflammation.
  4. Daily Schedule and Routines: Is your daily schedule sporadic and rushed?  If your day does not flow smoothly and you do not have healthy self-care routines, then again, this will contribute to inflammation, BIG TIME!
  5. Sleep: If you don’t get consistent quality sleep, stress hormones activate and sparks  inflammation.
  6. Exercise: If you never exercise or overdo exercise (especially intense workouts), this can also spark inflammation.

My friends, it’s always so much deeper than what to eat and not to eat.
It’s just a fact – No cookie cutter diet will help you reach your goals and sustain them.
